Good Morning Church!
We welcome you all to the house of God. This is the year of abundant harvest and we pray that may God speak with you today and bless you abundantly!
Last time we studied about how can we receive abundant harvest in our life. Today we will learn further and study about the importance of “Living Waters – The word of God!”
(Now the Philistines had stopped and filled with earth all the wells that his father’s servants had dug in the days of Abraham his father.)
Genesis 26:15
Enemy tries to stop us from the water, which is meant for us. And that is the aim of the enemy. What is essential thing in life? There was a website, “All about water”, that had published an article, “10 reasons to drink water”, which suggested that there are several benefits of water for us, pertaining to our physical health and overall wellness.
Enemy understands that water is important to us, otherwise we may dehydrate. In same fashion, we need to understand that enemy wants us to be spiritually dehydrated.
The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
Genesis 1:2
The Spirit and the Bride say, “Come.” And let the one who hears say, “Come.” And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.
Revelation 22:17
Water is related to many things in the Bible, however we will focus of Living Waters – the Word of God.
That he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
Ephesians 5:26
Word of God is important in our life, however enemy will try his best to stop the flow of water in our life, i.e. to stop us receiving the word of God.
One of the greatest example in the Bible is Abraham. The good question is that how could he receive so much blessings with abundant harvest?
Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
Genesis 12:1-3
Our God doesn’t stop after blessing us once, He blesses us beyond our understanding and more than what we deserve.
Abraham had a choice, he could have accepted what God was saying or he could have rejected God’s offer. However he chose to follow God.
The word of God is like a treasure and we need to dive into it to unveil the mystery of God’w blessings. God made choice of Abram, and singled him out from among his fellow-idolaters, that he might reserve a people for himself, among whom his true worship might be maintained till the coming of Christ. From henceforward Abram and his seed are almost the only subject of the history in the Bible. Abram was tried whether he loved God better than all, and whether he could willingly leave all to go with God. His kindred and his father’s house were a constant temptation to him, he could not continue among them without danger of being infected by them. Those who leave their sins, and turn to God, will be unspeakable gainers by the change. The command God gave to Abram, is much the same with the gospel call, for natural affection must give way to Divine grace. Sin, and all the occasions of it, must be forsaken; particularly bad company. Here are many great and precious promises. All God’s precepts are attended with promises to the obedient.
1. I will make of thee a great nation. When God took Abram from his own people, he promised to make him the head of another people.
2. I will bless thee. Obedient believers shall be sure to inherit the blessing.
3. I will make thy name great. The name of obedient believers shall certainly be made great.
4. Thou shalt be a blessing. Good men are the blessings of their country.
5. I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee. God will take care that none are losers, by any service done for his people.
6. In thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.
Jesus Christ is the greatest blessing for entire world; the greatest blessing ever the world possessed. All the true blessedness the world is now, or ever shall be possessed of, is owing to Abram and his posterity. Through them we have a Bible, a Saviour, and a gospel. They are the stock on which the Christian church is grafted.
So Abram went, as the Lord had told him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.
Genesis 12:4
Abraham at 75 years of age, left his home to embark on a new journey. However God went along with Abraham.
By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.
Hebrews 11:8-10
God blessed Abraham beyond abundance.
Now Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.
Genesis 13:2
Now Abraham was old, well advanced in years. And the Lord had blessed Abraham in all things.
Genesis 24:1
He received the sign of circumcision as a seal of the righteousness that he had by faith while he was still uncircumcised. The purpose was to make him the father of all who believe without being circumcised, so that righteousness would be counted to them as well,
Romans 4:11
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
Ephesians 5:25-26
The word of God is so important that we need to drink it up every day and we need to take bath with it to remove the pollution of this world.
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.
Psalm 119:9
Enemy tried to clog, but we thank God for His voice.
Today the enemy is filling our wells with dirt to clog our
Illustration: Addiction to drugs such can cause long-term changes in dopamine producing neurons in the brain, making it hard to fully recover and beat the addiction. Christian Lüscher, a professor in neurology at University of Geneva, Switzerland, was the first to demonstrate this. His experiments with mice have provided insightful knowledge on the neurobiology behind addiction. Lüscher and his team have been studying addiction using mice. In one of his experiments, the mice have a lever that they can press any time they want. When they press the button, a special optical sensor, which controls specific neurons in their brain, activates their dopamine neurons. The mouse quickly start to show the tell tale signs of addictive behaviour as they happily keep pressing the lever to receive more and more dopamine. “If after two hours we didn’t take them out of the cage, they wouldn’t eat, they wouldn’t drink, then they’d probably die quickly, but very happily,” says Lüscher, speaking during the conference. But what exactly happens in their brains when the mice press the lever over and over again? Well, it is addiction! Experiments on mice show that drug abuse leads to permanent changes in the brain.
Similarly, internet is addictive and we are using mobile phones more than anything as per several studies. This eventually leads to a new addiction; most of us are already addicted to the use of mobile and surf internet. And due to this, we gave forgotten to read the word of God other than what we hear (online now a days) on just Sundays.
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.
Romans 8:5
If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
Colossians 3:1
The word of God is a living water. Do you want to be clean? Do you want your thirst to be satisfied? You then need the word of God.
Not just Abraham, but his son, not just issac, but entire generation was brought ti the understanding that we are saved by the grace through faith. And faith comes with hearing and studying the word of God – The living water!
The man doesn’t lives on the bread alone, but the word of God.
Isaac worked on removing the dirt back then, it is your time to remove the dirt now. And how to do that? It is simple, with the help of Holy Spirit. To sum this all up, I would like to conclude today’s message with the lyrics from Mark Condon’s worship song…
Welcome Holy Spirit
