Good morning, Church!
We welcome you all at the house of God, to honor our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!
As we enter this new month, we will focus today on the importance of the blood of Christ and our covenant relationship with Jesus Christ. Today’s topic is, “Do this in remembrance of Me!”
Coming around the table of communion, our lives will never be the same. Encounter with God will change our lives.
And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,
Acts 2:46
And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise, the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.”
Luke 22:14-20
Christ kept the ordinances of the law, particularly that of the Passover, to teach us to observe his gospel institutions, and most of all that of the Lord’s supper. Those who go upon Christ’s word, need not fear disappointment. According to the orders given them, the disciples got all ready for the Passover. Jesus bids this Passover welcome. He desired it, though he knew his sufferings would follow, because it was in order to his Father’s glory and man’s redemption. He takes his leave of all Passovers, signifying thereby his doing away all the ordinances of the ceremonial law, of which the Passover was one of the earliest and chief. That type was laid aside, because now in the kingdom of God the substance was come.
For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord. The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt. “This day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations, as a statute forever, you shall keep it as a feast.
Exodus 12:12-14
God is saying that not only I am going to send you Moses, but I will deliver you as well.
Now this event from Old Testament has a dual purpose.
1: Fulfillment of God’s promise to His people.
2: Something is going to come. Foreshadow of the total Deliverance, Restoration of the lives of people and Freedom for every individual.
The Passover has come to completion. Not just the bodily deliverance bur spiritual deliverance.
And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.”
Genesis 9:12-16
Noah survived the flood and he was the only righteous in the sight of God’s eyes. Noah offered burnt sacrifices to God and was able to please God and in return God set up a covenant with Noah.
And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.”
Luke 22:20
Jesus talks about His body:
– Matthew 26:26
– Mark 14:22
– Luke 22:19
Jesus talks about His blood:
– Matthew 26:27-28
– Mark 14:23-24
– Luke 22:20
Today we aren’t under the slavery that occurred in the Old Testament. Today we are under the slavery of our own sins. Forget about the past, your childhood, troubles etc. Now is the new day and God is same – yesterday, today and forevermore. Think about the faithfulness of God. God showed His saving power and took the bread, and said, “Take this bread, this is My body.” He suffered for us and His body was broken for us.
Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the people of Israel whom the Egyptians hold as slaves, and I have remembered my covenant. Say therefore to the people of Israel, ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will deliver you from slavery to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great acts of judgment.
Exodus 6:5-6
God never takes delight when we go through difficulties, when we are troubled, when enemy wants to keep us in bondage etc. We have a covenant relationship with God and He will deliver.
The four cups as we know:
1: Cup of sanctification.
I will bring you out. We do not have to be under the bondage of sin.
2: Cup of deliverance.
I will rescue from bondages. Bondages are from enemy, freedom is from God.
3: Cup of redemption.
I will redeem you with an outstretched arm.
4: Cup of praise.
I will take you as my people.
God has redeemed us with His mighty hands. We were destined to die, but now we are going to heaven, because of the new covenant. We are not under condemnation, but we are redeemed and delivered.
In 1 Corinthians chapter 11, Paul focuses on the word “Together“, while addressing communion. Jesus gave first communion and there were 12 disciples at the table. Jesus even knew that one will betray Him. Nevertheless, Jesus died for each and every one of us.
Only coming to Church or taking part in the communion doesn’t guarantees a covenant relationship with God. What guarantees a covenant relationship with God is when we give your heart to Jesus.
Do not stand in your own righteousness. Jesus has shed His blood one and for all.
Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.
Hebrews 9:22
Illustration: One of the Bible Society representatives was given New Testaments to distribute in Africa. It was high quality rice paper Bibles. While distributing, he came across a drug addict. The addict said, “I will read the Bible first, but then roll cigarette with it to smoke it. The representative said no problem. Take this very expensive and good quality paper Bible. After many years, the story goes on. He was preaching at one of the functions and the drug addict was also km that meeting who instantly recognized the missionary. After the preaching was over, the addict approached the Bible Society representative as asked, “Do you remember me?” The representative nodded a no. The addict continued, “But I remember you very well! You gave me Bible and asked me to read and also agreed for me to smoke it. I smoked Matthew, I smoked Mark, I smoked Luke and I started smoking John. I smoked John 1, John 2 but when I reached John 3 and read 16th verse, I could not smoke anymore. I came to know about the love of God and found someone who can love me. I realized I gave my heart to Jesus and my life has been changed.”
People of God, if you feel unloved, remember, God loves you. People try to find love outside but satan’s agents are always ready to take you down. People of God, if you are that kind if person, then remember, “Jesus loves you!”
If you feel there is no one who loves you, remember, Jesus loves you like nobody can ever love you. The criterias are that you make a relationship with Jesus. A covenant relationship is made with Jesus when you give your heart to Jesus.
We thank you all for joining us today. God bless!
