Good Morning Church!
We welcome you all to the house of God. And, we must thank God for allowing us to praise and worship the one and only truly loving God, the son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ!
Everyday is a gift of God and we welcome this new month of July and may God bless you an your beloved ones this new month. Today’s topic will be “Honor God!“, as we move with our today’s 4th of July, 2021 service. This is in continuation with our Father’s day series.
We spoke about role of fathers from the holy scriptures in the past two services of this series.
1: Noah – Father who made a preparation for the survival of the family.
2: Job – Father who offered sacrifices unto the Lord for his children.
3: Lot – Father who chose a worldly comfort over spiritual matters.
4: Eli – Father who failed to discipline his own sons.
5: Joshua – Father whose house hold served the Lord.
And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Joshua 24:15
We will continue exploring the importance if the role of fathers from the scriptures.
Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
Exodus 20:12
Moses received the tablets where it suggests “Honor your father and your mother…!” Why do you think God would add this commandment? Thats because we are to honor our father and mother. Irrespective of our age, status or any capabilities, we must ho or our father and mother.
Now the question is, what does it mean to honor your father and mother?
1: To honor means to VALUE them.
The opposite of honor is dishonor, that is having a very casual behavior against parents. Failing to honor is breaking of commandment. Honoring parents is the expression of obeying Jesus.
Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
Colossians 3:20
In the Gospel of Mark, Chapter 7, we will notice all the pharisees coming to Jesus to who He says, you are neglecting your responsibilities against parents.
 2: Obey their instructions.
One of the signs that we are living in the last days is children being obedient towards their parents.
Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching,
Proverbs 1:8
When we obey our parents, there is a blessing. If we disobey our parents, we are disobeying God.
3: Not to assault them verbally or physically.
We have seen news around the world, children physically assaulting and abusing their parents. Every our actions need to be very thoughtful of things we do with parents or say to parents.
The word of God says, honor your parents otherwise punishment will be severe. When you speak, choose your words very wisely.
4: Speak well of them.
There are some children who take pride in speaking evil against their parents.
Whoever strikes his father or his mother shall be put to death. “Whoever steals a man and sells him, and anyone found in possession of him, shall be put to death. “Whoever curses his father or his mother shall be put to death.
Exodus 21:15‭-‬17
For anyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death; he has cursed his father or his mother; his blood is upon him.
Leviticus 20:9
We need to be very careful people of God. Don’t speak bad about parents and be very careful for every word we choose. It is better not to say anything against parents rather than cursing them, it will be dishonoring God.
When you are with friends, don’t crack jokes on your parents or use them as a subject of jokes. This is unacceptable in the sight of God and you will end up making a fool of yourself. No matter how much you dislike them, a believer will always speak good of her or his parents and they will refuse to speak anything against their parents.
5: Speak well with them.
Children, we should not speak harshly with our parents. Parents are also human beings and they long to hear good things about them from their children. They really wait to hear that their child says, “My parents are a blessings for me!”
Try to find good qualities in your parents if you feel your relationship with parents is bad and there are unhealed scars in your mind. Respect your parents and honor them in front of them and behind them. And let your parents know that their child thinks good about them.
So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!
James 3:5
For it is written very clearly in the scriptures….
Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.
Exodus 20:12
There is no better way to conclude today’s message with the words of this beautiful worship song.
Bind us together Lord,
Bind us together
With chords that cannot be broken
Bind us together Lord
Bind us together Lord
Bind us together in love
There is only one God
There is only one king
There is only one body
That is why we sing
Bind us together Lord
Bind us together with chords
That cannot be broken
Bind us together Lord
Bind us together Lord
Bind us together in love
Fit for the glory of God,
Purchased by his precious son,
Born with the right to be clean
For Jesus the victory has won
Bind us together Lord
Bind us together with chords
That cannot be broken
Bind us together Lord
Bind us together Lord
Bind us together in love
We are the family of God
We are his promise divine
We are his chosen desire
We are his glorious new wine
Bind us together Lord
Bind us together with chords
That cannot be broken
Bind us together Lord
Bind us together Lord
Bind us together in love
