Good morning Church!
A new month and a new day, yet God has been faithful and never changing. We thank God for this opportunity to speak with Him yet again.
We will continue with our ongoing series, “Favour of God.”
Those who see God’s favour have also faced suffering, yet it is Lord who keeps us off falling. Men and women of God were able to climb this mountain of persecution and trials.
God is supreme and sovereign and nothing happens outside of His sight.
Isaiah 66 gives a high view of God…
Thus says the Lord : “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest? All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declares the Lord . But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.”
Isaiah 66:1-2
The Jews gloried much in their temple. But what satisfaction can the Eternal Mind take in a house made with men’s hands? God has a heaven and an earth of his own making, and temples of man’s making; but he overlooks them, that he may look with favour to him who is poor in spirit and serious, self-abasing and self-denying; whose heart truly sorrows for sin: such a heart is a living temple for God. The sacrifice of the wicked is not only unacceptable, but a great offence to God. And he that now offers a sacrifice after the law, does in effect set aside Christ’s sacrifice. He that burns incense, puts contempt upon the incense of Christ’s intercession, and is as if he blessed an idol. Men shall be deceived by the vain confidences with which they deceive themselves. Unbelieving hearts, and unpurified consciences, need no more to make them miserable, than to have their own fears brought upon them. Whatever men put in the place of the priesthood, atonement, and intercession of Christ, will be found hateful to God.
The question is, how can we people find God’s favour? Well there are few things we can do…
1: We must humble our hearts.
All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declares the Lord . But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.
Isaiah 66:2
For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly, but the haughty he knows from afar.
Psalm 138:6
Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
James 1:21
Without humility, you and I will be coming in the way of God’s blessings.
2: Seeking God with brokenness.
For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.
Isaiah 57:15
The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18
We must come before God in our brokenness and with humility.
For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it; you will not be pleased with a burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.
Psalm 51:16-17
If you feel that Holy Spirit is convicting you for a repentance, for a sin that you know troubles your heart, today is the day for youbto repent with your heart. be humble and pray with your brokenness. If you want Lord’s favour, God says, “If you love me, obey and keep my commandments!”
Holy Communion:
And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.
Luke 22:19-20
For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
1 Corinthians 11:23-26
Church, if you fee there is a disconnection between you and God, today is the day. Humble yourselves and repent and seek God’s favour. And indeed, God will bless you.
We hope you are encouraged with today’s service. We look forward ti see you again next Sunday. God bless!
