Good morning Church! Last week we talked about 'Watch Out!'. The signs that you will know that you are living in the last days. In the similar way, you will know that Christ is coming. Today we will be continuing with the second session to 'Watch Out!' - Five signs of the last days.
As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"- Matthew 24:3
"But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect." - Matthew 24:36-44
Illustration: There are very clever robbers now a day. They will call you telling they are from bank and take down your details. But have you ever heard a robber telling you that he will be coming at a specific time to your home to rob?
Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, "The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed." - Luke 17:20
"Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all." - Luke 17:26-27
The kingdom of God was among the Jews, or rather within some of them. It was a spiritual kingdom, set up in the heart by the power of Divine grace. Observe how it had been with sinners formerly, and in what state the judgments of God, which they had been warned of, found them. Here is shown what a dreadful surprise this destruction will be to the secure and sensual. Thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed. When Christ came to destroy the Jewish nation by the Roman armies, that nation was found in such a state of false security as is here spoken of. In like manner, when Jesus Christ shall come to judge the world, sinners will be found altogether regardless; for in like manner the sinners of every age go on securely in their evil ways, and remember not their latter end. But wherever the wicked are, who are marked for eternal ruin, they shall be found by the judgments of God.
In the days of Noah there were five signs:
1: There was an increase in the population. "When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them." - Genesis 6:1 There will be no moral values if we think of one of the estimates by scientists for the year 2050. They suspect that the population may go up between 9-10 billion. But people of God, do not be alarmed with this, but be alarmed when Christ comes.
2: There will be an increase in lawlessness This means an increase in violence and corruption. Lawlessnes in simple words means, no respect for the law. Making laws does'nt change anything, but change in people's attitude can bring a relevant change.
"The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight, and the earth was filled with violence." - Genesis 6:5, 11
Genesis 6:11 - Violence prevailed as we read above.
And the Lord said, "What have you done? The voice of your brother's blood is crying to me from the ground. If Cain's revenge is sevenfold, then Lamech's is seventy-sevenfold."- Genesis 4:10, 24
And for your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and from man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man. "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image." - Genesis 9:5-6
Today we have so many victims, going through all bad things, i.e. rapes, murders, theft etc. Bible is very clear in saying Lawlessness will be more and more.
"And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold." - Matthew 24:12
"But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people." - 2 Timothy 3:1-5
"The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually." - Genesis 6:5
Since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy." - 1 Peter 1:16
"Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight, and the earth was filled with violence. And God saw the earth, and behold, it was corrupt, for all flesh had corrupted their way on the earth." - Genesis 6:11-12
Revival is not only about singing, going to Church every week, being more active in church activities etc. Revival is living holy. Because the word of God is alive, active and it is a two edged sword.
Paul in the Bible says build one another.
Illustration: Someone requested me for a prayer for a sick lady at one of the wedding I attending. She told me that I am 94 year old so I have to be weak. She further told that reading two lines from the scripture in the morning and in the evening is sufficient.
3: Increase in self indulgence I have to be a different person because we represent Christ. But there are many who have taken the leverage of free will to take their own decisions. Someone tells a lie and that lie is repeated and eventually becomes a truth. Even in the Church, nowadays people feel uneasy after a sermon is exceeding one hour. This is all work of satan. We have been finding more enjoyment in eating, drinking and Celebrations. The psalmist says, I do not want food but the word of God because it is what feeds my soul. The Church and the people who are really spirit filled, Christ honoring people will be found in the resting place in the presence of God.
4: Increase in or explosion of knowledge and luxury How much time do we spend? Bathroom, technology, reading science fiction etc? Same thing was happening during the days of Noah.
"Cain knew his wife, and she conceived and bore Enoch. When he built a city, he called the name of the city after the name of his son, Enoch. Adah bore Jabal; he was the father of those who dwell in tents and have livestock. His brother's name was Jubal; he was the father of all those who play the lyre and pipe. Zillah also bore Tubal-cain; he was the forger of all instruments of bronze and iron. The sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah." - Genesis 4:17, 20-22
As the technology is increasing you want more.
Illustration: Buckminster Fuller created the “Knowledge Doubling Curve”; he noticed that until 1900 human knowledge doubled approximately every century. By the end of World War II knowledge was doubling every 25 years. Today things are not as simple as different types of knowledge have different rates of growth. For example, nanotechnology knowledge is doubling every two years and clinical knowledge every 18 months. But on average human knowledge is doubling every 13 months. According to IBM, the build out of the “internet of things” will lead to the doubling of knowledge every 12 hours.
5: There was scoffers in the last days.
"But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord." - Genesis 6:8
We do not walk by sight but by faith. Noah did the same.
When we ta about Jesus, people will make fun of you, but remember that your identity in Christ is more important.
Then the Lord said, "My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years." But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. - Genesis 6:3, 8
"If he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly." - 2 Peter 2:5
"Because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water." - 1 Peter 3:20
Then the Lord said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and all your household, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in this generation. And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives with him went into the ark to escape the waters of the flood." - Genesis 7:1, 7
"Knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires. They will say, "Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation." For they deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished." - 2 Peter 3:3-6
When people are making fun of you, when people are scoffers, consider yourself as a blessed person because you have Christ.
So watchout, these are the signs and Christ is coming. Come before Lord and say, "Help us.... I will not build a bungalow or an expensive apartment, but I will build an ark, whete my family will be safe.'
Church, we hope you are encouraged by today's sermon. We look forward seeing you next Sunday. God bless!
