Bible talks about we need to have attitude if Christ because He humble Himself and was exalted. We try to exalt ourselves and forget to humble ourselves.

Let us think about the death of Jesus Christ. Jesus accepted the cross willingly. He knew the danger of separation from man to God. He knew that in order to unite man with God is through cross only.

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me." - Matthew 16:24

A true disciple of Christ is one that does follow him in duty, and shall follow him to glory. He is one that walks in the same way Christ walked in, is led by his Spirit, and treads in his steps, whithersoever he goes. Let him deny himself. If self-denial be a hard lesson, it is no more than what our Master learned and practised, to redeem us, and to teach us. Let him take up his cross. The cross is here put for every trouble that befalls us. We are apt to think we could bear another's cross better than our own; but that is best which is appointed us, and we ought to make the best of it. We must not by our rashness and folly pull crosses down upon our own heads, but must take them up when they are in our way. If any man will have the name and credit of a disciple, let him follow Christ in the work and duty of a disciple. If all worldly things are worthless when compared with the life of the body, how forcible the same argument with respect to the soul and its state of never-ending happiness or misery! Thousands lose their souls for the most trifling gain, or the most worthless indulgence, nay, often from mere sloth and negligence. Whatever is the object for which men forsake Christ, that is the price at which Satan buys their souls. Yet one soul is worth more than all the world. This is Christ's judgment upon the matter; he knew the price of souls, for he redeemed them; nor would he underrate the world, for he made it. The dying transgressor cannot purchase one hour's respite to seek mercy for his perishing soul. Let us then learn rightly to value our souls, and Christ as the only Saviour of them.

In order to have the attitude of Christ:

1- Deny yourself
Denying is not avoiding worldly activities or things, but dwnying yourself completely. Denying is the attitude itself.

Illustration: Recently there are three hot topics on newspaper. The death of Billy Graham, Sridevi and Shankaracharya.

See the difference, Dr. Graham's death was such a celebration. He denied himself.

Jesus was teaching and the dosciples understood. Jesus spoke "Do not serve two masters!"

Jesus told if you follow Me, you have to pay the price. Eventhough Jesus didn't bribed anyone, yet people understood the price they have to pay and followed Him.

2) Take up your own cross.
Once you understand what does ot mean, then you will be able to take up your cross.

How do you interpret cross? Few peiple think it is a burden, few believe it to be physical illness, bad relation with family, unbelieving relatives, rebellious children.

The bible says that is not the Cross. Dying for yourself is denying yourself and taking up the cross.

Jesus meant, inorder to follow Him, you need to be committed to yourself. Not comitted to your church or office or school or families etc., but to yourself.

In cross there is life!

We see news of murders, destruction and dictatorships who have established their kingdoms after shedding blood of people.

Cross is always a voluntarily thing. Choice is your own decision, you have to decide.

"For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified." - 1 Corinthians 2:2

Christ, in his person, and offices, and sufferings, is the sum and substance of the gospel, and ought to be the great subject of a gospel minister's preaching, but not so as to leave out other parts of God's revealed truth and will. Paul preached the whole counsel of God. Few know the fear and trembling of faithful ministers, from a deep sense of their own weakness They know how insufficient they are, and are fearful for themselves. When nothing but Christ crucified is plainly preached, the success must be entirely from Divine power accompanying the word, and thus men are brought to believe, to the salvation of their souls.

Illustration: Martin Luther said once: "A religion that gives nothing, costs nothing and suffers nothing is worth nothing."

Domt aspire that God has called you to raise your children as doctors and engineers (good if they are), ratjer raise them to be the disciples. Prepare them for the heavenly kingdom and not the worldly kingdom.

Why should we carry the cross?
Well because the reward is worth.

"For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?" - Matthew 16:25‭-‬26

"For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit their very self?" - Luke 9:24‭-‬25

Illustration: AW Tozer once said, "The cross will cut our lives where it hurts worst, sparing neither us nor our carefully cultivated reputations."

You need to ask a question to yourself. Are you willing to giveup on your good friends in order to take up the Cross? Are you willing to deny your achievements and your fame and your savings and your family etc.?

Well, if you are then you can takeup the cross.

Have you decided to deny yourself and takeup the Cross? If yes, pray to God and seek his wisdom and strength to pay for the price.

Friends we hope you will think anout this when you leave for your home.

We hope you are encouraged today. We look forward seeing you next Sunday. God bless!
